Guppi joined the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants in early 2018, working closely the team, Doctors of the World and the Equality and Human Rights Commission to lead a research project on the impact of charging migrants for accessing the NHS. This developed into a 6 month project that included polling with YouGov, analysis of legal frameworks on access to healthcare, and delivery of workshops to front line migrant rights organisations to help prepare for potential strategic litigation. During this time, Guppi supported the Executive Director through media appearances, briefings to MP’s and taking opportunities to challenge the Hostile Environment more broadly during the organisation’s leadership on the Windrush Scandal.
